Living Life On Purpose
Creating family "VALUES" to live by,
can bring a stability to the family
and a JOY to each individual!
At one point in my consulting career I was working with a family of four, the mother and her three children, 10 year old twins, a girl and a boy, and a 6 year old boy. The children were very challenging. The children were creative and fun loving but were very rude and disrespectful. Observing the children with their mom I could see where their rudeness and disrespect was coming from.
This Blog is all about Having Courage to Parent – Independent of Common Practices and…
…Independent of what the “neighbors” are doing!
…. Independent of what your children’s friends are doing!
…. Independent of your children’s begging and begging!
In today’s fast-paced world, you are asked to make many many decisions through-out the day. Often this can be over-whelming, especially when your children end up begging for something just at the moment when your mind is trying to figure out what to do about the five other things that have to be taken care of.
About 10 years ago I met a man who had been inspired to
create numerous products all centered around PEACE. At that time, while his business was somewhat successful, it was not
thriving. He felt that perhaps the time was past for his products. I wonder if he is
still in the business today? I hope so! The more people and businesses out there
promoting PEACE, the greater the focus will be...and the greater amount of GOOD that will
For me, I think this is the most important work we can do in the world -
can only give away what you have ...
you have love, you can give it.
you don't have it, you don't have it to give.”
I have found
great wisdom in Leo Buscaglia's words. And I feel that this idea is so applicable to
Raising Peaceful Children.
So, I will
edit it slightly for our context:
“You can only give away what you have…If
you have peace, you can give it. If you
don’t have it, you don’t have it to give.”
So, how does
one find that inner peace?
Do Children Learn to Live and Play Peacefully?
In today’s world I think that if we want our
children to live and play in ways that are peaceful, we must make a conscious
effort to surround them with opportunities to experience peace on a daily basis.
they are exposed to so much which may not be aligned with PEACE, a “special”
effort is necessary to provide them opportunities every day to experience
In the 1970’s when my children were very young, in
my home hung Dorothy Law Nolte’s wall hanging with the poem: CHILDREN LEARN
WHAT THEY LIVE.
The first thing that I do when I'm involved in supporting a family who wants to bring about change in their household, is to encourage them to do the following:
STOP: Stop and take a time out and relax! Breathe...and do nothing! Get a cup of tea or coffee and sit down and enjoy!
LOOK: Look around at your home environment and your children.
LISTEN: Listen to the conversations amongst your children and/or their playmates. In addition, listen to yourself and the way you speak to them when you interact with your children.
Recently, I have been giving much thought to the way children are being raised and the influence that their daily experiences have on whether or not they carry on the idea of "war" or "peace". I've had an opportunity to observe young children...5,6,7,8 and 9 years old. Some enjoy cartoons and computer programs about over-coming the enemy and/or just fighting. In some programs, creatures fight just to be fighting...for no apparent reason.
