I do believe there is great wisdom in the words THINK Globally! ACT locally! Yesterday I spent several hours at a Festival where 50 various groups had gathered to share their expertise and matters and situations that most know nothing about.
This reminded me that so often most of us come to deeply believe that ALL we see in front of us is the Truth about ALL of the world. It reminds me of the story about the elephant. It goes something like this. All the mouse in the wild knew about the elephant was the huge legs she saw as the elephant walked over the house hole. All the bird knew was his view of the creature from the sky as he flew over and all the ant, on the back of the elephant knew was the gray terrain he crawled around on.
Each of us is born into a certain place, at a certain time in history and into a specific family. And for the most part we take on the values, beliefs and ideas from that family and that period in time. We don't realize that they are a "relative truth"...a truth in that moment for that situation. In order to have a deeper understanding of "the Truth" we need to step back and take a long range view of life AND be open to what took place before what you know. This is not always easily done, because we are SO identified with what we know... we are the belief...we are the condition...we are the story.
In the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient spiritual text, they talk about becoming "detached" from our perspective, our beliefs, our ideas and being able to be the "observer" or "witness". I invite you to look at your life and see if there are beliefs you are holding on to that no longer serve you. Or, if you look out into the world, is there a situation that you've held in a certain way, just because those beliefs were passed on to you.
As we are able to more objectively look at our lives, our ideas, our beliefs, we are able to see what serves us and what no longer serves and then release that which doesn't serve. This is a process. Being open to being the "observer" is the first step. Enjoy the process, it can be very liberating.
Each of us is a center of Power and the values we stand for are what we are anchoring on the planet. Being consciously AWARE of what you stand for makes a difference in the energy on the planet. And being consciously AWARE allows you to know yourself and how to best make a difference on the planet.
Yesterday I was so impressed with all the individuals and groups at the Festival and the expertise they offered. As we come to know our self more deeply, we learn how we can contribute in life. For one it may be creating a family, for another, coming to know the Divine in a deeper way and for another it may be in the political arena.
