As I was driving back to Nevada City today…looking at the mountains with AWE, gratitude came to mind.
I did have such gratitude for the gorgeous countryside I was driving through. Hugh mountains…spotted with snow, with the lake below, partly frozen over. I love our Mother Earth. And during this trip to the Reno area in Nevada I fell in love with the country side for the first time. I saw it in an entirely new way during this visit.
As I was entering the area last week…driving south from Reno into the Washoe Valley, the landscape was breath-taking. The valley was vast and wide-spread, surrounded by mountain peak after mountain peak, all covered in snow. I was in awe as I drove down into the spacious country side. I enjoy relating to our Mother Earth in a personal way. So, on this drive, what I saw was countryside, wide-open, vast, with great spaciousness…like a playground to explore and grow in. The land was fairly barren, open for planting and creating within with high mountain tops, to climb. There is so much to be grateful for.
I was reminded that years ago, a minister friend of mine, suggested to us studying with her to write down three things we are grateful for at the end of each day. I found this practice to be so inspiring. It allowed me to really honor the little things in each day that I was grateful for.
These are my three gratitudes for today:
1. I’m grateful for the gorgeous countryside on Mother Earth.
2. I’m grateful for the daily opportunity to learn and grow and for deeper self-understanding.
3. I’m grateful for the warmth of my home, even when it’s 36 degrees outside, the inside in warm and welcoming.
So, I invite you to consider such a practice.
What are YOU grateful for TODAY?
Wishing you a day of seeing life in a new way!

Last night we had more SNOW…adding to the SNOW from yesterday and the SNOW from the day before. For me, having lived the majority of my life in Southern and Northern California, SNOW is a new experience.
Unlike living in southern California, if you want to go outside, you just don’t walk out the door! You PREPARE! Two pairs of pants, two sweaters, one jacket, one scarf, gloves, heavy socks and then the boots! THEN you are ready to go out.
Although the need to help take out the trash barrels was the main reason for preparing to going outside, after the task was completed, the snow called to me. It drew me into the mountains around the house, to explore this mountain of snow. It was captivating! Each step was an experience! Sometimes, the snow was 6 inches deep, sometimes just 2 inches deep. In the 6 inch snow, the steps were almost like a stomping, because the entire foot had to come up out of the snow, you couldn’t just do a regular “walk” in this snow. I actually became lost in the experience of walking around… not knowing what the next step would bring. Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! Even the sound was fascinating.
At one point I looked up and was once again mesmerized…this time by the hills all around which were spotted with the bright clumps of white snow. Hill after hill, spotted with the white snow was breath-taking. The bushes closest to me also had branches which were holding the snow, but as the sun rays touched them, clumps of the snow would fall to the ground.
As I continued walking the snow became deeper and deeper, thus my steps became higher and higher, making deep indentions in the sheet of snow covering the ground. The snow was calling to me…I needed to be closer to it, so I feel to the ground on all fours, playing in the snow. I flattened a section of it and then drew a large heart on it. I felt like a child…just me and the SNOW. It was magical! I continued crawling around in the snow and sensed I was being like an animal…with the bushes even with my eyes. I was at the same level as the bushes. One bush caught my attention. I stopped and starred at the bush, seeing all the intricate little needles coming off of a hundred small branches. The golden browns tones were gorgeous. I still wanted to be nearer to the snow, so turned around and just sat down in it, feeling the coldness on my legs, the wetness of my pants and the tingling in my hands from crawling in the cold snow.
My teacher, Sat Shree, often talks about being in the immediacy of life; noticing what is happening, feeling the sensations of the body, being immersed in the moment as it arises, without “thinking”. This SNOW experience certainly had me immersed in the immediacy of life...living in the now!
As I stood up and looked back toward the house, I glanced at the ground and the snow was sparkling like glitter….pinks, gold, blues, greens…it was gorgeous. Fascinated by the sparkling glitter I continued walking back toward the house. The different depths of snow on the mountainous terrain once again caught my attention, never knowing how deep my foot was going to go into the snow pack. Numerous animal foot prints caught my attention! Each left its own very unique imprint in the snow. One unusual one called to me. There were two small imprints side by side and behind (or in front of it) were two single imprints. As I glanced over the snow packed hillside, I could tell that many different animals had covered the same ground I was covering just a little earlier, some leaving trails for 20 or 30 feet. However, none were there now, except for an occasional rabbit here and there. And thus ended my experience in the SNOW for today!
Many teachings speak about Living in the NOW and the importance of being in this moment. AND I must say that after this mesmerizing time in the snow, I feel it gave me a deeper appreciation of being in the moment..."Living in the NOW”
Where were YOU when you felt you were Living in the NOW?
Do you want to live in the NOW, to a greater degree? What might that look like?
Have you ever observed a child at play, totally immersed in the moment? Can you think of a time when you could be like a child...and play? Does this sound like fun?
Wishing you a wonderful DAY of living fully in each and every moment!
With love, Sharon

From my own remembrance of my infancy, and feeling my awareness as an infant, just weeks old, I personally know that the newborn is aware.
Dr. Thomas Verny, M.D., through years of research, has also revealed how aware the unborn child is. His book, written in 1982, The Secret Life of the Unborn Child, was instrumental in revealing how aware a little one is even before he or she enters the world.
In his book he writes, “This book is about many things…but principally it is about the shaping of the human mind, about how we become who we are. And it is based on the discovery that the unborn child is a feeling, remembering, aware being, and because he is, what happens to him – happens to all of us – in the 9 months between conception and birth molds and shapes personality, drives and ambitions in very important ways.”
Now he has another book called, “Pre-Parenting: Nurturing your Child from Conception”. Because there has been so much research and revolutionary discoveries in neuroscience and developmental psychology in recent years, much new information is available. Dr. Verny translates the research in these fields into practical advice for parents and parents-to-be.
I’m now in the process of creating a new series of the “Dear Little Ones” letters. These are for expectant parents to read to their unborn baby. The work of Dr. Verny touched me deeply and made me so conscious of how sensitive and aware the unborn child. So, these are to invite you… the expectant mother…and the expectant father to connect with your little one and let him/her know, YOU know he/she is there! Here is the first letter.
NOTE TO PARENTS TO BE: Know that these are just a beginning point for you. Use them to give you an idea of how you might connect with your little one. However, I invite you to go beyond the letter. Tell your little one, about yourself, let him/her hear your voice…his/her Daddy’s voice. Tell him about the home he/she will be coming into. Tell him about your pets, other children, grandparents, etc. Just allow these letters to be a jumping off point from which you can share your selves with your unborn little one. Enjoy. Have fun! Your little one is listening. Through the tone of your voice, he/ she will pick up your love…your caring…your kindness.
ONE MORE WORD: After each sentence, stop. Feel into the words. Feel into your little one within you…listening. Touch your belly. He’ll know you are there. Take time for the words to penetrate you and your baby. Even if you don’t feel a connection at first, continue. He is listening.
Dear Little One….
I’m so so delighted you are growing within me. Already you are part of our family. I feel you presence here. I already love you. Know you are deeply loved by so many. Know you will be looked after as you enter into life here, once you are a little older… and a little bigger. For now, know you are safe within me…protected. I cherish you. I long to hold you in my arms and tell you how precious you are to our family.
Rest peacefully within me. Know that all is well. Grow. Be strong. One day I will hold you, touch you… until then little one…know that I am here...
With all our love, your Mother and your Father
I wish for you a great connection with your little one...
with great love,
I would love to hear from you about your experience with this. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org

“It isn’t enough to talk about peace.
One must believe in it.
And it isn’t enough to believe in it.
One must work at it.”

Some months ago I was reflecing on the idea of PEACE, both World Peace and Inner Peace. And after reading some materials, I deeply realized that PEACE is dependent on the peace of its people! Of course, I realized, how could it be any other way?
So, that means, we each have an opportunity to find that inner peace for our self…and as we do so, we actually take a step toward creating a peaceful world.
Have you found a way to live in a peaceful way? What has worked for you?
For me, I’ve learned to accept for the most part, that which I can not change. I’ve learned to live in a state of “allowing” whatever is to be.
This means allowing the world situation to be.
This means allowing my past to be.
This means allowing my adult children to be.
This means allowing my friends to be just as they are.
This means for the most part to accept What Is.
But one thing happened some years ago, that I had a hard time allowing to be. This was when I had a spontaneous remembrance of my infancy. I saw myself so uncomfortable in my mother’s arms because of the strong distasteful odor of cigarettes! Seeing this and feeling this, I was deeply saddened. Even today, I do not like being around cigarettes, and realized how difficult it was for me as an infant. And in time, I deeply realized that my mother was doing the best she could at that time, so really didn’t blame her… but still was very sad.
So, my solution at the time was to write a series of letters, which I called “Dear Little Ones”. These were a series of letters written to the “little one” from their Guarding Angel. I wrote a variety of letters, each for a different stage of the little one's development. The letters were ones we could read as an adult, comforting that "little one" within.
Following is one such letter:
Dear Little One…
You are such a beautiful Little One! Know that as your Guarding Angel I want the best for you always! You are so special. You are unique…one of a kind. We have been awaiting your arrival. And YOU have arrived and your journey on Planet Earth has begun! You are so loved!
I feel your pain from all that goes on around you.
The gruff voices you hear.
The uncertainty of who is going to pick you up.
The times it’s so hard to breathe…with all the cigarette smoke around you.
But know that you have great courage within…courage that will carry you through life.
You have great strength within also… a strength that will allow you to go through the challenges.
And within you is faith…to carry you forward always…
And within you in great love….love that will always surround you….
Right now, just rest and take in this love…
Feel this love….
Allow it to fill you completely….
I am always with you…
With love, Your Guardian Angel
So, if you have had a bitter-sweet experience in your childhood, I hope you can take in the LOVE that is in this letter…from your guardian angel… from the Universe of love…and KNOW you are loved!!!
Just a year ago or so, during meditation, I felt just a HUGE HUGE LOVE from the Universe. It was like the Universe was loving ME! It was a love greater than any love I’ve ever experienced.
I just cried in its presence…not feeling worthy of such GREAT LOVE! So, as we come to spend time with the Universe during sitting in times of Silence…the Universe does find us at some point…and lets us know we’ve been “FOUND”, as my teacher Sat Shree would say. This is a gift.
However, right now if it is difficult for you to feel such love from the Universe or the “Dear Little One” letter, if you are still feeling the pain, there is another VERY potent way of being with all that you are feeling…AND that can heal it.
Just be with all that you are feeling.
And then, put the story aside, and just feel the “energy” of your pain.
Find its location in your body…and focus on that place in your body.
BE with it! Stay with it, without any story.
It will do one of three things:
First, it just may leave… and it will be gone.
Second, it may speak to you. It may tell you more about it.
Third, you may feel a heat in the area or in your body in general. Stay with it. This is the transformation of that energy into light.
What I've come to understand is that events in our childhood, which may not be what we would call "traumatic", can actually leave us with symptoms of "trauma".
When we are little, our system is very open and thus we easily take in whatever is happening around us. And seemingly “common happenings” or every day events can cause trauma in the little one. Peter Levine has spent a life time writing about how such experiences can be healed. So, know that if you did have a difficult childhood, there is a way you can come to peace with it. I invite you to seek support. Find the resources that work for you. Feel free to connect with me here or by email at: email@example.com You are not alone.
Sending much love to you….
And wishing you great peace…

“To know how to choose a path with heart is to learn how to follow intuitive feeling. Logic can tell you superficially where a path might lead to, but it cannot judge whether your heart will be in it.” ~
Jean Shinoda Bolen
What exactly is meant by the term ‘heart’? It’s not just the physical organ, through which we feel emotions as the heart pounds faster or relaxes. The heart also corresponds to the heart chakra of subtle energies and information, and it has a built-in nervous system of its own linked to emotions and intuition. It also aligns with the right-brain way of thinking holistically and non-verbally, whereas the ego mind is more left-brain and verbal - in the head. So when we talk about “listening to our heart,” it means being mindful of our soul’s perspective, our inner knowing, our intuitive feeling, our essential loving core.
The above commentary is by Peter Shepherd
The best and most beautfiul things can not be seen or even touched - they must be felt by the heart.
“Use your heart. Understand. Learn to see things in the now, not as they were or will be, or as they might or should be, but as they are, right now, in this moment. The heart sees the now; the mind only sees the next. If you can't learn to see the now, you'll never see what's truly there, and then where will you be?”

The Mature Human Heart
The human heart expands through trials, troubles, disappointments, losses and failures. Human maturity is the capacity to include everything in our lives. The purified heart carries a capacity to accept and love without repulstion or judgment.
The mature heart surrenders to what IS.

Listening to Your Heart is the topic for today’s blogging.
Some time ago, I heard a friend say that she was doing a collage on “Listening to her Heart”. She’s collecting pictures and arranging them on a board with the focus of listening to her heart…what does her heart say, what does her heart want…what does he heart feel. I thought, what a beautiful way to connect to her heart…to her depth longing…to her passion.
Another young woman I know yearns to work less, to have more free time, to say NO to the 9-5 routine. However, those around her strongly believe that a strong work ethic is the 9-5 routine, and she is following them, not wanting to disappoint them… and not listening to her heart. Years ago she longed to move to Colorado…she felt pulled there, however, she never did.
As I write this, I’m deeply sensing the depth of different between these two individuals and their situations.
The lady who is creating the collage about listening to her HEART, is on a path of discovery…of listening to her inner thoughts…to discover, to learn, to change, and to grow. With such a practice she’ll be moving ever more into alignment with her purpose, with her authenticity.
In the second situation, even though his young women is doing great service in the world and making a huge difference in people's lives as a therapist, she is following her "head", what she feels is the “right” thing to do in the world and not her heart…or that which she wants to do.
As I listen to my heart, I see that I have such a deep longing to share truth, to sing it from the mountain tops…to shout it from the mountain tops!! I yearn to support people as they yearn to live and grow in the world.
As I write this, I’m asking myself…WHY is this so strong in me. I wonder about the WHY behind this. Perhaps it’s because I myself, have had such a difficult journey finding the TRUTH about the way this whole works…the underlying principles behind it...the principles LIVING it.
Perhaps I think I’ll ease my own pain…. if I support others. Perhaps I want to try and save others years of searching…years of going from one teaching to another… years of struggle.
And yet I know we each have our own path to follow…and our own timing. And if this is so, perhaps it really doesn’t make a difference at all…if I share my experience… because each one will discover their own path… in their own timing. AND the truth is that everyone, is time… makes it to the mountain top…to the truth of who they are…to the truth of what life is all about. SO, why do anything at all….why care….why work… why write…why do anything at all?
I do know that truly it does matter what we do or don’t do! And it matters what you do or don’t do. We each make a difference.
If it hadn’t been for those who went before me…I would not know what I know today. If it hadn’t been for the books that have been written… that I’ve read… I would not be where I am today. SO, we each do make a different…We each have a role to play….We are all interconnected… and thus do make a difference.
The trick is, we need to do whatever we do…with the deepest truth we know and without expectation. We must do our work, without expectation for any reward, without any need for acknowledgement, without any need for compensation. And thus, we live freely…and rightly…and honestly.
So, I ask…
What is your deepest desire?
What do you yearn to do?
What do you yearn to be?
What do you yearn to share?
Wishing each of you great love and the courage to listen to YOUR heart…and follow.

As we choose to want to live more consciously, opportunities arise to become aware of the way we are in the world.
How do we treat our self?
How do we treat others?
Do we have to have things our own way, or are we flexible?
What pushes our buttons?
Before we became conscious, we might just accept whatever we do, as just being “ME”. But as we become conscious, knowing that our actions do many a difference, we begin to ponder what we do.
All of these questions are ones that we can ask our self and then sit with during times of silence, and reflect on them. When we want to become more conscious, then everything matters. The way we act, our responses and the quality of our interactions do matter.
My spiritual teacher, Sat Shree, was just speaking about this in a talk he gave from India this week. He shared that as a teen he had lived a rather wild life, not seeing a reason for living otherwise. And when he had his spontaneous awakening in 1998, immediately he saw that EVERYTHING MATTERS. In that moment, he knew that Life was Purposeful and what a person does or doesn’t know makes a difference.
And as he began living in his new consciousness much was revealed to him, so he came to just KNOW how the universe works. One aspect of this knowingness was that he saw it was important for individuals not to avoid experiences or turn away from those situations that are difficult to deal with. He saw that energetically, all situations need to be met; otherwise one’s system will create structures or patterns to avoid similar situations in the future.
As I reflect on this now, I find the human system AMAZING in its complexity and so beautiful. We came here in a body…to learn and to grow! So it would make perfect sense that if we tend to avoid something, it would be the perfect learning opportunity for us.
In the same way, if we have strong desires for certain things or certain types of experiences, this too is not the most favorable way to live. As a human we want to learn to be more neutral, to ACCEPT WHAT IS and to learn to handle whatever arises. Would not life be so much easier, if we were able to go along with the flow of life and BE PRESENT to each moment, as it appears in front of us?
If this is the first time you are hearing these ideas, you might have a strong reaction to what you are reading. I can understand that this can be a challenge at first, because for many, having strong preferences may have been a way of life for you. We see others around us wanting this or that, so it becomes the way we learn to live too. We accept this as normal. And yet, when one chooses the spiritual path, the conscious life, we are introduced to new ideas, truths and guidelines for living more aligned with universal principles.
But doesn’t it make sense that being able to accept what arises would make live SO much less stressful. One way to be able to live in a more neutral manner, is to take time to sit in the silence; to become still and allow these new ideas, new ways of being to flow through you. When we allow the universal energies to flow through us, things can shift. It’s only when we are living as a separate “person”, wanting this or that, that such preferences come into play so strongly.
The truth is that we are MORE than our little separate self. The “Being” that animates our life through our personality is of a different nature. And when we give our self over, we can relax; we can allow things to shift and this actually supports us with living aligned to the universe in a much deeper manner.
Do know that the Universe is Purposeful! And as we listen to our heart, to our inner guidance, we can learn to relax into a new way of living… with less stress, less preferences and to ACCEPT life as it shows up.
Sending great love to you,

Last night, great winds came up during the night! Winds that actually woke me up, which is very unusual. To make matters worse, or should I say to make things NOSIER, there was a tarp on the roof, that had come loose but was still attached to the structure it was protecting by a single rope and was flapping all around constantly!
As it was blowing around, it would have one type of sound when hitting the roof, another sound when hitting the window and still another sound when it would hit the sky-light. The sounds were different in each moment. It really was entertaining as I became more aware of the various sounds.
As I lay there half asleep and half awake, I compared it to the TRUTH that we live by or the VALUES that we stand for. When we aren’t sure of our way; when we aren’t sure of our values, we are blown this way and that...just like the tarp was the blown this way and that with the winds.
Not knowing what we stand for, we stand for nothing. We may have a thought here or a thought there, but with no consistency, with no certainly, and thus with no authority!
So, I inquired, “Am I like that tarp, just blowing this way and that, or do I stand for something, is there stability in that which I stand for?”
And so I ask you, WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
And then I inquired, “Is what I stand for hidden away or can it be heard just as the tarp was so easily heard last night?”
And so I ask you, ARE YOUR VALUES VISIBLE OR HIDDEN AWAY?
I do believe that we are in an era where each voice is important and has a purpose in connection to the greater whole.
I invite you to…
and to have FAITH that YOU have a role to play in creating a world that works for everyone, not just a few.
Let your voice be heard!
In addition, I invite you to be aware of what is happening in THIS moment.
And as I come to do this more and more… without anger, judgement or repulsion, the present moment, brings to me an awareness about life that is refreshing, deepening…and very meaningful.
Please comment here or send me your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you.
