Have you ever had a new insight…or new awareness…or feel you are at a new level of understanding and then loose it? I’ve actually wondered about this for years. My chiropractor for over 30 years in southern California shared with me once that he saw shifts in people, time and time again, and then 3 months later, they would come back and the challenge he had cleared had returned.
A couple of months ago, I went on a retreat for 12 days, and when I returned home, felt that I had had a shift in my perception, a heightened awareness. Then within 48 hours I saw it beginning to vanish.
The same thing just happened recently. I had been on a retreat, returned home with a heightened awareness and then felt I was getting caught up in the “old ways”. So, I’m recalling how this challenge was solved last time and hopefully this time too. It was so simple….all I had to do was…
SIT IN SILENCE…for a longer time than usual!
I recall that last time, all I needed to do was to sit in the silence, longer than usual and to be still and allow the pull of the outer world to fade away. When I did this, I found that my connection to the Presence returned. The pull of daily life was not so strong. For me, sitting in the silence, brought me back to the heightened awareness I had experienced during the retreat.
Amazing, how easily the mind forgets what we really need. Living in the world, there are many pulls on our attention, many things calling to us... grocery shopping, work, family challenges, children, parents, house cleaning, emails, etc. No wonder we are pulled away from being in the quiet, sitting in the silence.
And yet how wonderful it is to know though, that just going into the silence, can support us in keeping and maintaining a new level of consciousness!!!
However, it’s my experience that…
The deeper the shift in your consciousness, the more time in the silence is needed in order to stabilize the new level of awareness.
When one takes the time to sit in the silence, letting go of the day and all that happened, letting go of whatever the “mind” is thinking about, a new clarity comes, living in the “higher” state comes more spontaneously, without thought, a peacefulness returns.
I’ve also observed through the years, that if I’m very attached to a particular challenge, or something very important in pressing on me, I may need to sit more than once to really clear away the confusion. This is why, creating a daily practice of sitting is so important. When you create a life-style that allows for daily practice then many of the little challenges are handled by such a practice.

As I was driving back to Nevada City today…looking at the mountains with AWE, gratitude came to mind.
I did have such gratitude for the gorgeous countryside I was driving through. Hugh mountains…spotted with snow, with the lake below, partly frozen over. I love our Mother Earth. And during this trip to the Reno area in Nevada I fell in love with the country side for the first time. I saw it in an entirely new way during this visit.
As I was entering the area last week…driving south from Reno into the Washoe Valley, the landscape was breath-taking. The valley was vast and wide-spread, surrounded by mountain peak after mountain peak, all covered in snow. I was in awe as I drove down into the spacious country side. I enjoy relating to our Mother Earth in a personal way. So, on this drive, what I saw was countryside, wide-open, vast, with great spaciousness…like a playground to explore and grow in. The land was fairly barren, open for planting and creating within with high mountain tops, to climb. There is so much to be grateful for.
I was reminded that years ago, a minister friend of mine, suggested to us studying with her to write down three things we are grateful for at the end of each day. I found this practice to be so inspiring. It allowed me to really honor the little things in each day that I was grateful for.
These are my three gratitudes for today:
1. I’m grateful for the gorgeous countryside on Mother Earth.
2. I’m grateful for the daily opportunity to learn and grow and for deeper self-understanding.
3. I’m grateful for the warmth of my home, even when it’s 36 degrees outside, the inside in warm and welcoming.
So, I invite you to consider such a practice.

Have you ever listened consciously to the “talk” that in going on within your mind?
Years ago, I was in a writing class, and the intention was to write a book of 50,000 words in 6 months, I believe it was. So, I thought it would be a great idea to write about our inner dialogue. So, I decided to keep track of the type of thoughts I was saying to myself. I was shocked; much of it was so negative.
You’ll never do that!
Why are you doing it that way?
Why did you say that?
At first I kept a tally list with only two columns. One column was positive self-talk and the other column was negative self-talk. I was so surprised that I told myself such negative things. After a while, the list became more specific and I’d focus on the different types of self-talk.
I invite you to LISTEN to your inner voice.
What is it telling you?
Do you like what it is saying?
Today, my inner dialogue is much more positive.
Yes, you’ll be able to do that!
You did a great job teaching today!
Great job, you’ve done yoga every day since you arrived on your retreat!
And yet, we have to be the "watchful observer", making sure those negative thoughts aren't sneaking into our inner diagolue. I hope you can enjoy the process of listening to your inner dialogue and getting to know yourself on an even deeper level. It really is an exciting adventure to discover more about our self.
Learning about our self and learning to create that which we want in the world is a life-time adventure. Enjoy the journey!

I’ve always been drawn to the words, “know yourself”. To me, there has always been a pull to know myself. There are so many ways that one can know them self. I think I’ll brainstorm here, just how one can know them self.
To know your talents
To know your skills
To know the foods your body likes
To know what your body doesn’t like
To listen to your body when it speaks to you
To know what experiences nurture you
To know what experiences do not nurture you
To know what your self- talk is
To know when you act against your internal compass
To know when you are aligned with your spirit
To know the values you stand for
To know the attributes you easily show
To know the attributes that are difficult for you to express
To know if you have something to forgive
To know if you have an inner emotional dis-ease
To know when your body needs rest
To know when your body needs exercise
I so enjoy blogging, because it is a means for me to challenge myself, to bring forth something new.
I invite you to create such a list.
What do you know about yourself?
What do you not know about yourself?
Is there an area you want to explore?
Any of these questions or the questions you come up with are excellent for self-inquiry. Just ask a question, sit with it and see if something arises. If so, wonderful, you have another piece of the puzzle. If nothing arises, just allow the question to remain. The universe does hear you! The universe is purposeful. You never know when a response may come to your open- ended question. Enjoy the mystery.

Dear Readers ~
As you may have noticed my blogging stopped very suddenly!
On February 15th, I received a very surprising email, giving me a 30 day notice to move out of my home. Although the property was up for sale, it had been discussed that I could stay and see if the new owners wanted a renter. I have been there almost 4 years and the house fit my needs completely. However, life happened and a move was needed.
SO, life as I knew it stopped in many ways. Much time went into reflection, on my next step. Thus the blogging stopped too!
So my apology!
And then an 8 day trip away had already been planned, so that was the next “big thing” on the agenda.
SO, for this blog, I want to reflect on HOW do we handle change?
How have you learn to handle the unexpected?
First, for me, I had a conversation to make sure, the move was needed. And when I realized that is was needed, I had to stop “wanting” to change the situation and ACCEPT WHAT IS!
Next, came GRIEVING. I had to grieve my lovely home! I had to face that I would no longer be here. The grieve rose up within me suddenly two days later. At that point I walked around the house, spontaneously, touching all that I loved, thinking of all the memories, sobbing. It was intense! But it lasted only 5 minutes!! I was amazed.
Next the MIND kicked into place and began analyzing what I could do, where I could go, etc. The MIND was not happy with the changes and kept very busy.
Then, my higher self, the God within, the Divine within, took the driver’s seat (as my spiritual teacher would say). This is different than the mind; it came from a place of just KNOWINGNESS. And the flavor of the knowingness that came in was to move nearer to my spiritual teacher. With God in the driver’s seat, everything fell into place within about 48 hours, all was set it place to begin that process. And all seemed well!
However, the mind woke up and my “ego” came out again. The QUESTIONING began! Then the DOUBT jumped in! “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Then much fear of the unknown arose. How can I move so soon? I’ve never lived in another state before! How will I pack everything? Will I need a moving truck? Etc.!
However, the next morning when I awakened, COURAGE was present and 95% of the FEAR was gone. The questioning and doubt had subsided. And there I stood in COURAGE. There was courage to welcome the change; courage to handle whatever was necessary; courage to move forward with joy.
What an amazing process I observed that “this person Sharon” went through.
I’m wondering what YOUR process was,
when you’ve had to face the Unexpected?
I do believe that the most powerful Truth to stand by, when the unexpected comes, is to Accept What Is. We must develop a relationship with what has happened and to accept our emotions about the situation. As we are present with what is, it can transform.
The UNIVERSE is FOR US! It deeply support us in our process of growth and change and thus if given an opportunity to work with us, will show us how to work with the situation.

For most of my life, I’ve expected PERFECTION from myself. I wanted to do things in the “right” way, to have them turn out 99% perfectly. WOW, what a lot of stress that put on me…and I didn’t even realize it at the time.
This past year, I had a big opportunity to do a new radio program… on a wonderful internet station. I had raised funds for it for over a year and put much preparation into the content. For a variety of reasons, I was not content with the first few programs. It was devastating! I felt I had let down those that had supported me greatly. It was very difficult to accept what was happening.
So, I really had to look at the situation from a spiritual perspective. My spiritual Teacher, Sat Shree, is a Realized being and thus has had the personal experience of “seeing” and “knowing” the Truth about Life. And from that perspective he teaches how to appraoch life rightly. Here are some Truths and Guidelines that relate to this situation from his Teachings:
Choose What Is
Do the work without demand or expectation
Meet what is before you
Let go of expectations
Do not believe your negative story
Once I looked fully embraced the situation from this perspective, I accepted what was happening. I actually came to accept the situation as it was. And in this, there was a great freedom. It was a huge lesson!
From past experience, when I blog for 30 days straight, I put myself in a place where I have to “reach deep” into my consciousness to create the content for the blogging. And so the content is fresh! It’s new! And thus, wanting to post it daily, I don’t feel I have the time to have it formally edited. My preference would be to have it “perfect”. However, it’s just not realistic. This has been a challenge to live with. And yet, it’s very refreshing, very enlivening, to keep up the momentum of a daily blog.:)
Then, on top of my imperfections, I’ve noticed that the new platform I’m using at Vista Print also has some imperfections in it. So, I spent almost an hour on the phone today with their customer service, which is awesome. I learned that I actually caused the problem by not copying and pasting to Note Pad first before pasting print into the site. SO, as much as we attempting to create the proper spacing and delete extra characters, it wasn’t coming out perfectly.:/
SO, I decided I also need to allow “systems” to be imperfect. Another great lesson.
So, here are some questions for self-inquiry:
Are you able to allow yourself to be imperfect?
Are you able to allow others to be imperfect?
Are you able to allow “systems” to be imperfect?
When you sit with your responses, how does your body feel?
Could listening to your body be a measure for learning to response to life situations?

Has your body ever known something before your mind knew it?
I’ve had this happen several times…and it was always amazing to me. My body would seem unsettled for no apparent reason. And then something would happen…and I’d say, “Oh that was what my body knew.”
Also, for years, I’ve occasionally gone to bed with a question on my mind. And sure enough, in the morning, I'd awaken with a deep knowing and the answer was there.
Do you listen to your body?
Does it speak to you?
Years ago I had an extraordinary experience that showed me the great knowing and remembrance in the body. It actually transported me back to infancy in a remarkable way.
This was the setting:
I was attending a week-end workshop, called Women, Power and Money. I was driving back to class after lunch and thinking about the afternoon session when I was going to be talking about a new aspect of my work and that was about the importance of “wearing” your young infant.
I always had a difficult time putting on the sling, so I was actually wearing it…with a “baby-doll” nestled in it, as I drove to class.
Here is the rest of the story, as I wrote it after the incident:
And all of a sudden I got a very stiff neck. It came on so suddenly, it really surprised me. I thought back to what I had done to bring it on, and nothing came to mind. While at a stop sign…I glanced down at the doll I was carrying in my sling, and realized that the doll had become me…as a “baby”! I saw that in that moment… I was carrying “myself”. I was in awe! It was a moment, where life just stood still!
Shortly thereafter I realized it was “me” as an infant that was having the stiff neck. My mother was holding me, wanting me to breastfeed. I kept trying to turn away from her. This was causing “my” neck to be very stiff. I did not want to be close to her. Then I realized there was an odor I was attempting to get away from. What was it? Why did I have to work so hard, to breathe? Then I realized that being in her arms I was being immersed in the odor of stale and fresh cigarette smoke. I must have felt the pain of that moment, because I began deeply sobbing! I pulled the car over and stopped. I had never had an experience like this before. Could this really be happening? I was attempting to turn away because of the stench of her body because of her smoking. I sat there in awe…and the sobbing continued.
I knew I had to get back to class, so forced myself to stop crying. Finally I composed myself, still in awe of what had happened! I drove to the class. However, I took off my sling and left it in the car. I entered the room late, still stunned from the experience and did not speak about it during the class at all.
Thinking back to that experience over 12 years ago, I still am in awe, how the body can have us remember something that has happened over 50 years earlier.
I questioned, was that really true? Then I recalled that years back my Grandmother, with whom I was very close and spent every week-end with between the ages of 10 and 17, told me that my mother was very distressed when I would not breastfeed as a new-born. Grandma said that Mom tried everything, but I would not take her breast. And as an adult, I have always been bothered by cigarette smoke…and avoid it whenever possible. So, it does seem and feel like a very true remembrance.
The body does know!
So, what is the implication of this?
Can we ask the body questions we wish to know the answer too?
Can it reveal the true cause of our fears?
Does it know the purpose for our life?
If we listen to our self-talk will it reveal to us why we are anxious?
Even as I write this myself, I’m realizing myself, the tremendous possibility we have in our body. I want to create a deeper practice in my listening.

Today is Sunday and I’ve given myself permission to be very laid back, seeing that my week was SO busy! It’s now 3:30 and I’m still in my pajamas!
Feels wonderful! Sometimes, I do feel we just have to “break our own rules” and do what feels right in the moment. I even slept in and didn’t meditate until 8 AM which is very unusual! As we learn to listen to our body and our inner voice, we can give our self permission to be true to our self in a very honest way.
Last night perhaps meditation, the subject of setting “INTENTIONS” for life came into my awareness. And then the idea that flashed was, “How Do I Want to “BE” in the world?” So, I’m inviting you to think how YOU would like to “BE” in the world…and create an intention for 2018 around that.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: During my 13 weeks at www.VoiceAmerica.com and hosting my show, the Voice For Truth, I interviewed various people about their work. Sheila Ramsey was one such person. She is author of Personal Leadership, along with Barbara Schaetti and Gordon Watanabe. She led listeners through the process of creating a Personal Leadership Statement on my show in October of 2017. I want to acknowledge her work, because knowing about her I believe, allowed this idea to come to me in meditation.
So as I was playing around with this idea today, I wrote down possible words of how I want to “BE” in the world….from A-Z. For years, I’ve written down words for every letter of the alphabet, for various projects I’ve done. Below I wrote down some ideas/ words that could apply. Some of these wording are stretching it a bit, as far as the way of “Being” goes. But, I love playing with words… like this, so allowed the flow to take place.
A: Allowing, Authentic,
C: Courageous, Confident, Compassionate
E: Efficient, Effective
G: Good, Gratitude
I: Integrity, intelligent
J: Joyous, Just
L: Loving, Light-hearted
M: Magical, Magnanimous
P: Playful, Powerful, Possibilities
S: Sincere, Stable,
Then I went back and decided to write a statement of “BEING” for myself, using the ones that seemed most appropriate.
This was what I came up with, for the draft, which I’ll sit with and see how it feels.
Another part of this, which is similar to Sheila’s work, is that such a statement, can apply to every area of one’s life: personal, professional, spiritual, family, etc.
Feel free to make your intention as long or as short as you wish. As long as YOU can deeply relate to it, that is the important thing. Also, feel free to adjust it as you wish.
I’ll sit with mine and see if something needs to be shifted.
